One of the books I purchased when I was frolicking overseas recently was The Slap by Christos Tsiolkas (got is very cheaply at this fantastic shop in Dubai)! I know, I know, I should have read this book ages ago and yes, it is the ABC mini-series that has renewed my interest in it. Besides, I felt I should read the book before I see the series. A fellow bookclubber also felt the same so we decided to just choose this book for bookclub.
So if you want to give it a go, or have already read it and want to comment (especially if you have seen the series and want to compare) you have until 3rd January to read and comment on this book (or tv series).
And if this book is not the one for you, let us know what you do end up reading over the festive season and what your review is...

Winter warmers!
Here are some fantastic reads that should keep us all entertained while we snuggle up on our couches with hot choccies this winter!
In honour of the old Borders Bookclub, I couldn’t help but select Caleb’s Crossing – by Geraldine Brooks. Those members of the ‘old’ bookclub all fell in love with Brooks when we read Year of Wonders. Let’s see if she still has that ‘magic’!
Next is a personal selection (already have this book on my list of ‘must reads’) The Book of Rachael by Leslie Cannold
And well, I have actually read this next one and wrote a review on it for Allen and Unwin. Would love it if others read and discussed it with me, loads to talk about! The Raising by Laura Kasischke
And lastly...why is everyone talking about this little gem? Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. It has been out for a while, a movie has been made, and it does sit on my shelf at home, but I have never actually read it. Probably should, just to see if the ‘fuss’ it warranted!
So select away, you have until Friday 24th June!

Where it all began...
It is very upsetting to know that the Borders stores are now all coming to an end. Not only did I happily work there for over 3 years and can honestly say that working there was the highlight of my bookselling career - but it was on the third level of Borders Brisbane that I began my first bookclub! And yes, just as the world of bookselling is changing due to the internet/digital age etc. so too has my bookclub.
So before it closes, I will head to the Borders store at Chermside and pick some fabulous reads for us to choose from.
So stay tunned for our next selection.

Another year of fun-filled reading...
Hi everyone,
So another year of fun-filled reading begins. Please feel free to make any comments about particular books you read over the festive season. Good or bad reads! I am still getting through 'The Millennium Trilogy' and thoroughly enjoying it. Onto the third book now and the action is keeping me on edge. Totally recommend it for lovers of thrillers/mystery/crime/girls kicking arse books!!! :)
I will head to the bookstores soon and get another selection together for us to vote on and read - so stay tunned. Until then Happy 2011 to you all!
